the hairy eyeball

woe is meeeeee.
i am filled up with sad feelins cuz i got the hairy eyeball TWICE from my mama in the last 48 hours.  i've never gotten it twice before.  once is totally bad enough.
it all started out on thursday evening when mama and daddy got home from work.  mama told me that i was starting my level 2 obedience class that night.  i was so very, very, very, very excited.  i loooove obedience class cuz i get to meet other doggies, and i get an endless buffet of little smokies.  yummy yummers.  so mama took me and asa out in the backyard, and we did zoomies until we were both super pooped.  then mama said it was time to go.  mama, daddy, and i got in the car and we rode to class.  well, i was supposed to be kinda tired from all the zoomies in the backyard, but i guess i wasn't, cuz mama says i bolted into the class room and made a beeline for the first dog in sight, a most beautimous rottie named godiva.  i did some kinda flippy twirly thingie and got all tangled in my leash and fell on top of miss godiva and her mama, and my mama almost fell over from me pullin' her when she was unprepared.  the instructor lady came runnin' over and had to help untangle all of us.  then i got banned to the corner chair.  that was hairy eyeball number 1.
after that, i was really tryin' to be on my best behaviors.  i did pretty good in class.  here are some action shots for proof!
check out my sit-stay.

now we are workin' on come/recall.

here's a leave it.  i wanted that ball soooo bad, but i didn't touch it!

 time for down-stay.

look, mama, i'm still in down-stay.  love me, pretty please!

okay, now where's my little smokey??

did you drop it?

i continued being a good boy all day friday, and most of the day today...until late this afternoon.  mama and daddy took asa and i to the petsmart to get more foodables!  daddy was walkin' asa, and mama was walkin' me.  mama was pulling a hooge bag of nom noms off the shelf when i saw a bassett hound dude, and i had to say hihi.  well, i didn't ask mama, and i just started goin', and the leash tangly thingie happened again, and i pulled mama over, and the foodables fell on top of her.  oh boy.  hairy eyeball number 2.
i promise my entire box of greenies that i am not a bad boy!  i just get the distractions way easy like.  mama says i have a bee under my bonnet, whatever that means.  please help...i don't want mama to be unhappy with me forever!!!

fridays with asa: the introduction

hello, my fellow furry friends.

i, asa, shall be blogging today.  it occurred to me the other day that i have been making cameos throughout my little brother's blog, yet i have not had the opportunity to formally introduce myself.  therefore, i made the recommendation to booker that he allow me to post.  now my little brother is a kind boy, albeit a bit slow on the intellectual side of things, and he suggested that i take command of the friday posts.  i deemed this to be a stellar idea, and, thus, "fridays with asa" is making its grand debut!
with the introduction out of the way,  allow me to share with you a bit more about myself.  i am of the english pointer and pit bull ancestry.  i am 7 years of age, and i was born in october of 2002 here in south carolina.
i spent my formative days on a secluded farm with a menagerie of other animals but little socialization.  it was a respectable life, but sadly, my human decided to take her life when i was about 1.5 years of age.  as if that was not terrible in and of itself, what proceeded was even more disheartening.  my human's parents ransacked her house and left us animals to starve.  furthermore, most of us were chained up and kicked.  i was one of the fortunate ones to be free of chains.  i did what i could to survive and help my fellow animals survive; i had to slay the chickens on the farm for food.  thankfully, i and my surviving friends were eventually rescued.  i went to live with my foster mom and her 2 canines.  my foster mom was wonderful.  she was a vet technician, so she knew just what to do to help me gain weight and heal all my injuries.  after a few months of my foster mom's superb care, my mom and dad found me on petfinder.com.  they arrived to visit me, and i knew from that moment that i wished them to take me home forever.  my mom and dad needed to ponder it for a bit longer, but when they returned for a second visit, they realized that i was indeed the right match for them.  my mom and dad brought me home for good on may 21, 2004, and this was the most special day of my life thus far.
my mom calls me her "special needs" dog.  i believe this to be an accurate assessment.  since the beginning of my life was spent on a secluded farm, i was not properly socialized.  when i came to live in a suburban home, there were many things of which i was frightened.  for instance, i was terrified of cars, especially moving cars.  my first walk was a disaster.  also, i was very wary of new people and places.  furthermore, due to the abuse that i endured, i was very fearful of any movement towards my head and any kicking action, such as the kicking of a ball.  my mom and dad have been very good about helping me through most of my fears and insecurities, and i love them very much.  i am still wary of new people and dogs, but if i like you, you will be my friend forever.  i am quite loyal.
i am, without a doubt, the alpha dog in my pack.  my little brother booker was brought home for me last christmas.  mom and dad thought he would be good for me in that he would bring out my mothering tendencies and my more relaxed side since he was so laid back.  i have to say that this has been proven true.  though booker is completely goofy, he is a quality playmate.  i am thankful for his addition to the pack.
my best qualities would be my piercing gold eyes, my baby soft speckly skin, and my velvety ears.  my mom loves to give me gentle ear pulls, which i absolutely adore; it puts me to sleep instantaneously.
things at which i exceed: detecting food stuffs and eating them
                                     napping (especially under the covers)
                                     chewing on bones
                                     running
things at which i am fair: chasing squirrels and bunnies
wrestling with booker (his long legs always give
                                       him the advantage.  *sigh*)
things that i steadfastly refuse: playing fetch
                                               approaching the vacuum cleaner
so, in a nutshell, that would describe me.  it has been a pleasure to blog this friday, and i look forward to my next friday session.
good day!

addendum:  my mom couldn't restrain herself from furtively adding the above inopportune napping picture when i wasn't looking.  sheesh.
