dog days of summer
i don't know about ya'll, but it's crazy go nuts hot at my house!! me and asa don't really wanna do anythingie too exciting cuz of the mega hotness.
check out my handy dandy indoor/outdoor thermometer. just look at this ridiculousness!
now my mama's kinda cheapo like mango and dexter's mama, which means she's got the AC temperature set uber high, too. can't a doggie get any reliefs from the heat? mama just keeps telling me that it costs 50 gazillion green papers to keep the house cool and that i'm just gonna have to make do. she even suggested that i could always get my furs shaved if i couldn't stop being a cranky pants. hmmmph. well, me and asa decided to stage an intervention. we sat mama down in front of the compy and showed her miss lorenza's post on yogurt 'n PB pupsicles. i'm super duper happy to report that mama liked the idea so much, that she went straight to the kitchen to make some pupsicles for me and asa. YAY! normally, we aren't allowed in the kitchen when mama is doing her cooking thingie, but this time she let us watch.
okie dokie, so here we go! first, mama got out 6 paper cups (5 oz. size). i like the underwater theme. heehee.
mama put the paper cups in a little plastic container so there would be no wibbly wobblies or spillage.
then mama measured out some tasty yogurt into her measuring cup device. i am in 100% snoopervising mode.
boy howdy, the PB came next! we like smooth PB at my house. i was trying to use my brain powers to will the PB to fall in my general direction. look at those epic concentrations.
mama mixed up the yogurt 'n PB really good like cuz you just can't have chunks.
then she poured the mix into the little paper cups s-l-o-w-l-y.
last but not least, she put the super delicious goo into the freezer so it could turn into pupsicles!
oh, mama, we totally love you and your kitchen craftiness!!

fridays with asa: summer solstice
hello, my friends! happy summer to all of you!
were you aware that this past monday (june 21st) was summer solstice for those of us in the northern hemisphere? summer solstice occurs precisely when the earth's axial tilt is at its maximum incline toward the sun. on the day of summer solstice, there exists the longest period of continuous daylight for the entire year. therefore, from now until the winter solstice on december 21st, the continuous periods of daylight will decrease.
this picture was taken on monday evening. my little brother booker and i are quite fond of summer solstice. the longest day of the year affords one with many opportunities to people watch. following some exercise and a late supper, mom opened the front door to provide us with a most stellar vantage point for observing the various activities on our street.if you would be so kind, magnify the picture by clicking on it. are not booker and i modeling the most delightful bandanas? in case you are unable to see, they read, "tougher than i look!". i find them simply smashing and a wonderful conversation piece. our bandanas were a gift from ina in alaska. in fact, miss ina and her fur children toby, jeter, ginger, and halle were quite generous and thoughtful and sent us a lovely package and card! allow me to show you.
booker became a touch possessive of the package at the beginning. these young folk have so much to learn with regard to being patient.
we succeeded in opening the package and commenced with the inspection.
mom decided to become involved. what is this? giant cheese bones, you say? delicious!
i shall have a small taste, mom. i do believe booker is already intoxicated by the aroma.
more industrious sniffing taking place here.
and finally, here we are reading miss ina's card. look at these wonderful items -- the bandanas, the alaska dog news (an excellent read!), an anchorage map, a wooden painted postcard, and some gummi fish!
such a truly kind gesture, miss ina. mom, booker, and i thank you from the bottom of our hearts! booker and i were wondering if perhaps you would consider becoming our honorary aunt? after all, aunt ina has a wonderful ring to it, not to mention the fact that we've always wanted cousins.
good day!

i spell friendz a-w-e-s-o-m-e!
when i talked my mama into letting me start my bloggie back in february, i really didn't have any idea what to expect. i thought i would just be woofin' my thoughts and adventures for my family to read, but, boy howdy, it has turned into so much more than the booker man could have evarrr imaginated!! i have met so many super awesome doggies and kitties and hoomans from all over that world, not to mention that ya'll are all sorts of kind and generous. i am so privileged to call ya'll my friendz and share in your lives and adventures! so from the bottom of my labradoggie heart, i thank you bunches 'n tons for being my special friendz!
next up is my mischievous friend, miss puddles, who is always giving me the giggles.
she sure knows how to tell a funny story...and steal beer. she kinda sorta lives up the street from me here in south carolina. well, miss puddles and her mama kindly gave me and my mama the life is good award! thanks lots 'n lots to miss puddles and her mama for thinking of us!! my mama is supposed to answer these question thingies, so here's my mama!
okie dokie, thanks, mama! (she took like 50 gazillion years to answer those questions. good gravy!!) if anybuddy has not received the versatile blogger award or the life is good award, please would you take it as a pressie from me, the booker man? i would be most totally honored!
i need to apologize cuz this post is waaaay overdue. a couple of ya'll have awardified me and mama, but we have not been very timely in showing our thanks. i hope you can forgive us for being slower than that molasses stuff.
first up is my way cute and spunky friend, miss olive!
she lives with her mama and daddy in a magical place called texas, where there is an endless buffet of socks for every doggie. isn't she a lucky ducky? anywho, miss olive was super nice and gave me another versatile blogger award! thankee, miss olive, for your generosity!! with this awardie, i'm supposed to tell you 7 thingies about myself. now, i'm cheating just a smidge cuz i'm going to list the same 7 thingies i listed the first time around. i hope that's a-okay since i couldn't come up with another 7 thingies!- sometimes i talk in the middle of snoozin'.
- i can jump the whole flight of steps to the deck!
- i love to eat veggies!
- i love water, but i'm kinda scared of the hose thingie.
- on my chest where my furs come together, it forms a "T". my mama and daddy will ask me if i want my "T" (chest) scratched sometimes.
- when i was born, my nose was black, but now it's starting to turn pinkish.
- i wanna be a therapy dog when i grow up!

happy father's day!
today is the day to make sure that you let your daddy know how much you love and appreciate him! well, you should let him know every day for sures, but today, you can pile on the lovins extra heavy like and maybe even let him take a nap or two!
i know i've posted this picture on my bloggie before, but that was way back at the beginning, and i bet not a lot of you have seen it. it's my most fave picture with my daddy cuz we are having so much funsies together! he is always willing to run and do zoomies with me 'n asa. he always plays wrestle mania with us when we ask. he always throws my ball for me no matter how many times i bring it to him. and he is always willing to sneak me 'n asa some french fries when mama isn't looking. teehee.

fridays with asa: a fond farewell to my nuzzle nest
my dearest nuzzle nest,
you have served me valiantly over the past several years. no other bed could possibly surpass your luxurious berbery softness and your lofty, enveloping stuffing. we have shared a beautiful camaraderie, you and i.
whether a hearty slumber,
an efficient 10 minute power nap,
or simply a comfortable place to rest my bottom and contemplate life,
you have been an ever loyal bastion of security and comfort. for this, i owe you an immense amount of gratitude.
with sorrow, my mom has brought to my attention that she is no longer able to stitch you back together. i have lovingly pawed you with so much affection that your berber has become worn with holes and your insides have spewed forth. therefore, i must sadly bid you adieu. my sincerest hope will be to discover a suitable replacement that will always remind me of you, my dearest nuzzle nest. perhaps my fellow friends who are reading this would be able to suggest a viable option for a new bed of which you would approve? with love and affection, i shall remain forever yours in spirit.

pardon the interruption
evening, folks! this is booker and asa's mom. i've taken over booker's blog for a moment because i had to pose a question to ya'll. part of me is completely embarrassed for booker because i'm posting the below picture, and the other part of me thinks it's just too funny.
does anyone else's dog have such an attachment to a ball or toy that he/she does this? booker does this pretty much every day. haha.

fridays with asa: potpourri
hello there, my furry friends! it is quite good to be back.
as you have noticed, the title of my post today is "potpourri". in most cases, potpourri refers to a collection of flowers, herbs, and spices used to perfume a room. however, potpourri can also refer to an amalgamation or collection of miscellaneous items, and that, my fair readers, is what i, asa, have in store for you today.
shall we commence then? first, my mom requested that i share with you several pictures from a recent photo shoot. some of you may not be aware of the fact that i have always had a fear of the camera. i realize that this fear is irrational and silly, but nonetheless, it is one that i possess. in an effort to aid me in overcoming this shortfall, my mom will sporadically subject me to impromptu sessions with the camera. i must admit that i have made serious progress from these sessions, and my fear has almost dwindled to a mere discomfort. ha.
*********************************************************************************************
now that the above foppishness is out of the way, i believe that the next item of business is an update following my surgery. today marks exactly one month since my surgery to remove the MCT on my right thigh. do you remember my somewhat large incision?
i am happy to report that the saying "time heals all wounds" is indeed accurate. allow me to show you how my thigh looks today.
there we go. as you can observe, all of my stitches have been removed. i was thankful that i did not have to return to madame vet's to have my stitches removed due to the fact that my mom regularly removes stitches from humans at the doctor's office where she works. so my mom carefully de-stitched me, and my scar has smoothed out for the most part. it is also becoming less and less pink as each day passes. my fur is growing back in slowly but surely.
*********************************************************************************************
and finally, i am quite excited to present to all of you an update on my dad's garden! i have been toiling very hard to ensure a successful harvest.
isn't it amazing what 2 months of nurturing care can yield? currently, mom, dad, booker, and myself are enjoying an endless harvest of pole beans and bush beans. it is wonderful to go out to the garden after my parents get home from work and pick fresh beans for supper! also, the cucumbers are now in season. we just picked our first two this past week. below is one of the ripe cucumbers that we picked, and then another cucumber growing on the vine:
the tomatoes and green peppers are approaching completion as well. i believe one more week should do just the trick, and then we shall be ready for the first picking.
many thanks, friends, for sticking with me through this lengthy potpourri post. i trust that you will have an excellent weekend and enjoy watching the world cup!

ugh, mom. honestly? did you really feel the need to produce the camera whilst i was enjoying a relaxing afternoon slumber?
but wait...is that a most delectable morsel i spy in your hand?
indeed it is. a tender, perfectly green bush bean awaiting my enjoyment.
mom, i shall regard you and the camera directly with the hope that i may partake of said morsel!
are you not proud of me, asa? i am still fixating on the camera!

for goodness sake, booker, would you mind extricating your enormous nose from the picture?
