crazy ear funk!

it's time for a woe is me picture.

last friday night, my left ear started itchin'.  i scratched it, and it felt better, so i thought it was all good.  not so much.  i woke up from snoozin' on saturday morning, and my left ear was all burnin' and ouchies.  i couldn't even play wrestle mania with my big sis asa cuz every time somethingie came close to my left ear, i would squeal in mega pain.  so my mama brought me into the bathroom, and she used her happy voice and said she was gonna be really really full of the cautions and look in my left ear.  i was a sucker and fell for it.  according to mama, my ear was super smelly and full of brown gunk and very raw and red.  then came the way icky news.  since the vet was closed until today for the 4th of july holiday, mama was gonna have to clean my left ear out.  mama sat me down and took my head in her hands and told me that she needed me to be a very brave doggie cuz it was prolly gonna hurt.  boohoo.  i was a very brave boy with my daddy's help.  he gave me a big bear hug, and mama cleaned my left ear with some cotton balls and some alcohol.  it was definitely WAY OUCHIES, but i have to admit that my ear did feel a teeny smidge better after.  anywho, mama did her best to keep my ear clean and dry through the long weekend, and first thingie this morning, she called the vet and made me an appointment for this afternoon.
now i kinda actually like going to the vet cuz i get to meet new friendz!  today i met a 12 year old labradude named chewbacca, two very serious german shepherds (dude and dudette), and a 15 month old golden retriever dude who was ridiculous amounts of fun to play with!  still, when they called me back to see my vet lady, i was all filled up with the nervosity.  my vet lady, dr. deborah, is so super duper nice, but i was not looking forward to this for sures.  first i got stuck with the magic wand you know where.  then i started cryin' like a baby cuz dr. deborah took a ginormous q-tip and swabbed my left ear so she could do this thingie called a culture.  we waited a couple minutes, and just like dr. deborah had expected, i had some evil nasty yeast monsters living in my ear.  she said it was definitely an allergy, and since i got an ear infection in my left ear this exact same time last year, there must be a most bad item outside in the summer that does not like me or my ear. so apparently, those yeast monsters in my ear were being crazy greedy and throwing a hooge pawty, which meant that i had to get a shot of this stuff called prednisone in my hiney before we could go home.  dr. deborah said it would help me feel better, but all i know is that it makes me uber thirsty and gives me the munchies!  oh, and i got these horrible drops to put in my ear in the morning and at night.  i'm so so excited.  NOT!

okie dokie, i guess i better stop now before my post gets too cranky like.  besides, my tummy is rumblin' and i need an after supper snack.  stoopid prednisone!

Poor guy, drops are the worst. My pug is prone to ear infections too, I try to stay of top of cleaning his ears. I use a chlorhexidine solution and helps fight the nasty ickies and keeps the ear nice and dry. You were a very brave boy Booker, healing vibes to you.

Hi Booker Man, sorry that your ear is hurting. Ziggy gets ear infections sometimes and the vet thinks its from allergies too, although in his case it turns out he has food allergies. Hope you're feeling better very soon!

P.S. Ziggy wants to know if he changes his name to Chuck...or Ciggy...or something else with a "C", if your mom and dad will adopt him next?

Oh, Booker. We know WAY too much about what you are going through - Mason has TWO ear infections right now. His are allergy-related too. Happen like clockwork about 5 times a year (they used to be way more often, but then we switched foods and he only gets about a third as many now). In fact we ALWAYS have a bottle of Mometamax on hand, even take it along when we travel. Momma knows that smell all too well! Don't worry too much buddy, I know you'll be feeling much better in just a day or so!

Oh Bookie. That's not good newsies.
What a bummer! How annoying having the itches right in the ear where you can't get to it properly. You can't even lick your own ear. What a torture.
We hope that those meds will get you mongreling-around again in no time.
Any day playing without your siblings is a lost day so our paws are crossed for your speedy recovery. Keep us posted on the decline of the yeast monsties!

Oh, I know what you're going through, Booker. My ears have been non-stop trouble since Spring sprung this year. I hate that you've had all these ouchies to deal with. A lovely boy like you should never have any ouchies, but that's just not the way things work, I guess. Just let your Mom take care of your ears the way she needs to, demand a treat as a reward for cooperation and feel better soon.

lotsa licks, Lola

The universal Lab lament. Been there too many times Booker. Those meds have a permanent home in our kitchen.

Hi Booker - poor you! We're lucky that we haven't had anything like that (yet!!) It feels most unpleasant so we hope it sorts itself out soon - our advice would be to milk it a little for extra treatables, just to ensure you don't suffer a relapse or anything you understand! Hope you get well soon. Schnauzer snuggles - JD and Max.

Aww, poor Booker Man! I had a sickly kitty who practically lived at the vet's office before he died. I can definitely empathize. It's hard to see any animal not feeling well.

My parents have a beagle right now who spends lots of time there. He started out with infections in both ears. Got that cleared up but now his stomach is bright red and itchy and they can't clear that up. He's been on several different antibiotics and steriods, tried different kinds of creams and sprays but nothing seems to be working. They've even tried different kinds of foods, thinking that he might be having an allergic reaction to something.

I hope you get to feeling better soon!

OOOOH, Booker, those yeasties in the ears are nasty. You have such a good mom to want to try to make you feel better. We hope all those meds get that ear back in good shape. None of us like the ear washing either. Do you shake your head like crazy after the whole ordeal?

Yikes - hope it gets better quickly. Ear drops are bad, but the worst are eye drops. The humans say those are nearly impossible.

Oh dears.... I recognize one of those bottles. No fun! Sounds like you were a brave boy at Dr. Deborah's. When I had to go to the vet on Monday, I was a shaking, tail tucked mess. :( I could have used your support. Next time we should coordinate our appointments! I have bread makers too but on my chin. Weird, right?

Get better soon!!!!!!!!

Oh Booker we are so sad you are having ear problems! Virgil has them as a baby and he just hated it so much when he had to have his ears cleaned and get drops - but they did help him and they will help you too! We hope that it clears up quickly so you aren't in any pain - we are sending you tons of purrs to get well!

OK, yuh, like I totally have had those yeasts in my ears too and it is unpleasant for sure, but you have to be brave and let mom put in the drops and stuff to get you fixed up.

I am most brave, but when stupid PeeWee has to get examined he has to go in the bathroom too. Ruh roh, I say, stay out of that room.

Hope you feel better soon. If you produce any nice loaves of bread from the yeast, send them my way.

Oh this is terrible news. I hope by now you are feeling better. My big sister Nikki had bad allergies just like that. They sent her blood somewhere for a test and found out she was allergic to DUST. Turns out dust is everywhere even after Mom cleans it up, so they started giving her shots to build up her immunity and they helped a lot. After a few years she was all better and did not even need them anymore.

I hope you don't need the shots but if you do, don't be afraid--they will really help and then no more icky medicines. And I bet you Mom will do what mine did and let you likc cheese whiz off a spoon while Dad does the shot. That makes it better.

Hang tough, Booker Man!
