fridays with asa: summer solstice

hello, my friends!  happy summer to all of you!
were you aware that this past monday (june 21st) was summer solstice for those of us in the northern hemisphere?  summer solstice occurs precisely when the earth's axial tilt is at its maximum incline toward the sun.  on the day of summer solstice, there exists the longest period of continuous daylight for the entire year.  therefore, from now until the winter solstice on december 21st, the continuous periods of daylight will decrease.
this picture was taken on monday evening.  my little brother booker and i are quite fond of summer solstice.  the longest day of the year affords one with many opportunities to people watch.  following some exercise and a late supper, mom opened the front door to provide us with a most stellar vantage point for observing the various activities on our street.

if you would be so kind, magnify the picture by clicking on it.  are not booker and i modeling the most delightful bandanas?  in case you are unable to see, they read, "tougher than i look!".  i find them simply smashing and a wonderful conversation piece.  our bandanas were a gift from ina in alaska.  in fact, miss ina and her fur children toby, jeter, ginger, and halle were quite generous and thoughtful and sent us a lovely package and card!  allow me to show you.

booker became a touch possessive of the package at the beginning.  these young folk have so much to learn with regard to being patient.

we succeeded in opening the package and commenced with the inspection.

mom decided to become involved.  what is this?  giant cheese bones, you say?  delicious!

i shall have a small taste, mom.  i do believe booker is already intoxicated by the aroma.

more industrious sniffing taking place here.

and finally, here we are reading miss ina's card.  look at these wonderful items -- the bandanas, the alaska dog news (an excellent read!), an anchorage map, a wooden painted postcard, and some gummi fish!

such a truly kind gesture, miss ina.  mom, booker, and i thank you from the bottom of our hearts!  booker and i were wondering if perhaps you would consider becoming our honorary aunt?  after all, aunt ina has a wonderful ring to it, not to mention the fact that we've always wanted cousins.
good day!

What a nice thing for Aunt Ina to do for you. We love your bandanas and it would be great to sink our teeth into one of those cheese bones.

Mom likes the longer days since we usually have to walk at night - she doesn't like to walk in the dark. We try to tell her that is when all the fun begins but it doesn't work.

Have a great weekend.

Cheese bone has a nice ring to it. You got lovely gifts and those bandana look fabulous on both of you. I did notice that it never seemed to get dark the other night, which is fine with me, but it was a little weird. I guess where Ina comes from it gets even weirder. Almost all dark sometime and almost all light others. What's a biological clock to do?

They pose way too cute to be real dogs. I can't even get ONE dog to pose that good, but even on those rare occasions when I succeed with one, the other is sure to have his head turned.
