fridays with asa: conclusion of the special wisconsin report

greetings and salutations!
i have been pining to pen a blog post for near on a fortnight now.  ah, it is glorious to be back!
today, i wish to conclude the "wisconsin report" that my little brother booker commenced.  he is a fine historian, don't you agree?  but i digress.  allow me a moment to rummage through the wisconsin photograph file as i have several fine specimens for your perusal.
shall we begin?  as you may have surmised, a sojourn in wisconsin would be most remiss without a visit to a dairy farm.  my mom and dad had the opportunity to visit a dairy farm housing roughly 3000 bovine.

my mom in front of one of the open-air bovine shelters

the vast majority of the bovines at this dairy farm were of the holstein variety.  holstein possess quite distinctive markings of black and white.  holstein are also capable of outstanding milk production.

a fine specimen of a holstein

my mom and dad were also presented with the unique opportunity to visit a cranberry farm.  wisconsin is the leading producer of cranberries in the united states, with more than half of the united states' production of the fruit.  below is one of numerous cranberry beds at the farm.  upon closer inspection, you will note the cranberry fruit beginning to deepen into it's highly distinguishable crimson shade.

it is a common misconception that cranberry beds remain flooded during the entire span of the fruit's growth and harvest.  however, during the growing season, cranberry beds are irrigated regularly via moats.  the cranberry beds are not flooded until the autumn when the harvest is scheduled to take place.  in wisconsin, the cranberry harvest occurs in october.
now as much as i, asa, relish a superb educational feature, i do realize that some of my fellow comrades delight in slightly more entertaining fare.  as such, i will not leave you empty pawed, for it just so happens that my mom and dad were able to attend the green bay packers' training camp.  aye, my parents are indeed "cheeseheads".

extreme precision
why, yes indeed, that is donald driver!

witnessing the packers' training camp was most awe inspiring, but then as my mom and dad exited the practice field, they made the acquaintance of a precious brindle english bull dog puppy named judge.  judge was the tender age of 14 weeks.  i have no doubt that he shall grow into a fine gentleman!

and with that, i have summed up the highlights of my parents' wisconsin trip.  i trust that you have found this review satisfactory.  do have yourselves a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
good day!

What a well done history lesson that was! I paid very close attention in case you asked any bonus questions at the end...or a quiz! Hee-Hee!
Anyway, I did not know that Wisconsin was the leader of cranberry production in the U.S. I thought Massachusetts was the top seller...until now! I didn't know that there were so many farms in Wisconsin either! It seems NH and Wisonsin have a lot in common! Wow!

Oh, that was lotsa fun! I had to cover up my mom's eyes til we got past the cow part. She's skeered of cows. I dunno why. She's weird.

I also liked learning abouts the cranberry farm. I had no idea they grew in Wisconsin! I thoughts they grew in a state called Cranberrylandia. Thank you for broadening my education, Asa!

I've been trying to gets Brudder Ranger to write another blog post and I think you mighta inspired him! Thanks, Asa!

Awesome trip. We always thought cranberries came from New England. Well, you learn something everyday. We would have liked to go to a cheese factory...maybe they have seconds.

Dear Sweet Asa, do those black and white cows also produce the delicious chocolate milk that I thoroughly enjoy? Your parents' Wisconsin visit looked totally fun, especially the 60th wedding anniversary of Great Grandparents. What a beautiful couple they were and still are! Many more happy years to those lovebirds. Hugs n' kisses to you and Booker Man, Love, Auntie Ina and the Alaska Cousins xoxoxo

I went to a dairy farm once. They were having their annual open house. We got to tour the farm and watch them being milked. They had a separate area for pregnant cows about to give birth. I watched one cow in labor but she didn't have the baby while I was there. They had the babies there too. They always took the baby away from the mother right after the birth which I thought was mean but they said the mama was a working cow and they needed her milk. They milked the mama once or twice after the birth and gave the babies the milk and then from then on, they had some kind of special powder they mixed up for them. They also had a separate area for the sick cows. Fortunately, they only had a few cows there. It was a fun way to spend the day. Don't know why I haven't been back since it's an annual thing.

I'm not into football but I bet that was a lot of fun to watch them practice.

That little bulldog is adorable! I've always wanted a bulldog.

Great report, Asa!

Thanks for your holiday report, Asa.

Holy cow, those cows are cute!

Judge is adorable! I can so see how the name fits the dog too :)

Excellent reporting Asa, there was something for every puppy in it!
That Holstein is very handsome, and looks very inquisitive too. Did Mummy n daddy get acquainted with him/her?
Cranberries!!! we drink a lot of cranberry juice here. Mummy loooovvves it!
but we don't think India has a very significant production what with our country being mostly tropical.
Your football always looks very ascinating to us, maybe because ours is so different!
Ginger got a rugby sqeaky ball for her birthday this time!
Judge is cute and at the same time very distinguished. How befitting a name.
Your Mum n Dad definitely had a Pawsome sojourn out their.

Hi Asa & Booker
Congrats to your Grandma & Grampa on 60 years of marriage. Wonder if Frankie & us will make it that long.
We live about 3.5 hours away from Superior, WI & visit quite often. Penny ran away in WI when we first apopted her. She spent the whole night out by herself.
Love Ruby & Penny

Sounds like fun, Asa. I'd love to meet a cow. Horses are fun but they have no part in the production of cheese. Cows, on the other paw, are most productive. If I met one I think I'd have to say thanks for the cheese.

lotsa licks, Lola
