fridays with asa: potpourri

hello there, my furry friends!  it is quite good to be back.
as you have noticed, the title of my post today is "potpourri".  in most cases, potpourri refers to a collection of flowers, herbs, and spices used to perfume a room.  however, potpourri can also refer to an amalgamation or collection of miscellaneous items, and that, my fair readers, is what i, asa, have in store for you today.
shall we commence then?  first, my mom requested that i share with you several pictures from a recent photo shoot.  some of you may not be aware of the fact that i have always had a fear of the camera.  i realize that this fear is irrational and silly, but nonetheless, it is one that i possess.  in an effort to aid me in overcoming this shortfall, my mom will sporadically subject me to impromptu sessions with the camera.  i must admit that i have made serious progress from these sessions, and my fear has almost dwindled to a mere discomfort.  ha.

ugh, mom.  honestly?  did you really feel the need to produce the camera whilst i was enjoying a relaxing afternoon slumber?

but wait...is that a most delectable morsel i spy in your hand?

indeed it is.  a tender, perfectly green bush bean awaiting my enjoyment.

mom, i shall regard you and the camera directly with the hope that i may partake of said morsel!

are you not proud of me, asa?  i am still fixating on the camera!

enough, woman!  i demand that you surrender the bush bean forthwith!!

*********************************************************************************************
now that the above foppishness is out of the way, i believe that the next item of business is an update following my surgery.  today marks exactly one month since my surgery to remove the MCT on my right thigh.  do you remember my somewhat large incision?

i am happy to report that the saying "time heals all wounds" is indeed accurate.  allow me to show you how my thigh looks today.
for goodness sake, booker, would you mind extricating your enormous nose from the picture?

there we go.  as you can observe, all of my stitches have been removed.  i was thankful that i did not have to return to madame vet's to have my stitches removed due to the fact that my mom regularly removes stitches from humans at the doctor's office where she works.  so my mom carefully de-stitched me, and my scar has smoothed out for the most part.  it is also becoming less and less pink as each day passes.  my fur is growing back in slowly but surely.

*********************************************************************************************
and finally, i am quite excited to present to all of you an update on my dad's garden!  i have been toiling very hard to ensure a successful harvest.

my dad's garden just after planting:

my dad's garden now:

isn't it amazing what 2 months of nurturing care can yield?  currently, mom, dad, booker, and myself are enjoying an endless harvest of pole beans and bush beans.  it is wonderful to go out to the garden after my parents get home from work and pick fresh beans for supper!  also, the cucumbers are now in season.  we just picked our first two this past week.  below is one of the ripe cucumbers that we picked, and then another cucumber growing on the vine:

the tomatoes and green peppers are approaching completion as well.  i believe one more week should do just the trick, and then we shall be ready for the first picking.

many thanks, friends, for sticking with me through this lengthy potpourri post.  i trust that you will have an excellent weekend and enjoy watching the world cup!
good day!

Hi Miss Asa - that was a lovely post, so full of succulent titbits for us!

We're glad you're getting used to the flashy box - we realise that most humans are OBSESSED with them! We sure hope you got your nom out posing so prettily.

Secondly, we're so pleased that you're healing well - we did giggle at your bro's nose getting in the way, he he he!

And finally wow - you sure do have green paws! We are impressed at what your gardent is going to yield - we really like cucumbers, have you ever tried one? We can recommend them!

That's a great garden! I don't have one at my house. My parents do but they don't seem to get very many vegetables from it. Sometimes they do.

I didn't know dogs could actually be scared of the camera, but I did enjoy your photo shoot. And I can't believe how quickly your garden grew; you have a whole beanstalk! Just make sure you don't get any giants in your backyard.

Asa, your scar is healing very nicely! By winter, I'll bet it hardly even shows!

Mom is drooling over that garden of yours! It will be a long time before our tomatoes look like yours!

A very delectable post of potpourri - that's what we think. We are so glad that your scar is healing so nicely. You are lucky that your furs are growing in so nicely. Poor Phantom was bare for such a long time.

Mom is in love with your garden. We have luck gardening here, and she just loves those home grown cukes and tomatoes and peppers and . . .and . . . - well, you know, all of it. Great gardening, Asa. Hope Booker helped too.

Hello Miss Asa!
It's me, Daisy the Coonhound, and I've gotta bark that you and I have lots in common in regards to the camera! My mom sometimes subjects me to pose wearing outfits and bandanas and t-shirts AND THEN she posts my picture on her bloggie without asking permission to do so! Mothers, let me tell ya...
Anyway, I growled when I saw the picture of your scar and stitches beclaws they scared me butt I am sooo happy you are healing!
Also, I love the garden! My dad is growing a garden butt it doesn't look like yours but it hasn't been 2 months yet! Patience, patience!

Asa you would have been a great addition to the red bandana day. You are so brave to face your fear with just a bean!

We're happy to see your wound has healed nicely.

BUT, how did you guard that garden while you were at summer camp! Did you just put fear into the little critters before you left?

Oh, this post made me happy and it also made a lot of sense to me. You see, I suffer from camera-phobia myself! I empathize.

PS: I loved the idea of attaching a string to a can of tuna to get the kitty's attention and later I plan to do just that. I think I'll tie it to her tail so I don't have to do any work. Thanks for a great idea.

Asa, I'm so glad that you aren't so scared of the flashy beast anymore because those photos are pawsome! You are just beautiful. And I'm so glad you've recovered so well from surgery. That scar is almost gone. How handy that your Mom could take the stitches out for you. Veggies are not something I'm in favor of, but the garden is very, very pretty. Loved your whole potpourri post. I missed you when you were away at camp.

Dear Asa, I really enjoyed the 'potpouri'. It's so interesting. I'm glad the wound is almost gone and the scar is disappearing. Your dad's garden is so beautiful and I love those beans too.

Oh yes, I luved the potpourri, too! (That's a hard word to spell.) Okay, let's see. I know how you feels about the camera. It took me a long time to stop being freaked out every time mom put it in front of her face. But treats help LOTS!

And I'm SO happy you're almost all healed up and your scar is going away.

And lastly, your garden is SO very much wonderful! And tasty-looking, too! Good job! Your dad couldn't have done it without you!

Asa - I have to tell you how utterly refreshing it is to read a dog blog written so intelligently. You used words I never hear and I love it! Amalgamation - now, there's a fifty cent word if I ever heard one! Foppishness?? Well done!! One has to be very cultured to have forthwith in their vocabulary... kudos to you.

Glad you're healing up so nicely and good luck with your garden.

Asa, I so happy to see your scar is looking so good. Mine hasn't smoothed down yet but but my hair is growing back nicely. We are both survivors and in hope we stall cancer free.

Booker Man, it took me awhile to figure out that was your nose & not a big growth back on Asa's leg....was you licking Asa boo boo. That's whst Brooklyn does whenevr she sees me.

Wow, what a great garden. We used to grow burpless cucumbers and they were delish. Mommynwoulod love to have a cumcumber and mayo sandwch right about now.

Mommy will try to get Sandra after work tonight for you butm itm hard to reach them...it took exactly on very loooong weeklast time.
